"You want to lose pounds overnight? Forget Wii Fit. Facebreaker: KO Party is the game for you."
You want to lose pounds overnight? Forget Wii Fit. Facebreaker: KO Party is the game for you. As I have said before, the party genre is a type of game that only works with several players - else you won't have much fun, unless you're the guy with the Minesweeper addiction. Familiar party titles include Super Smash Bros. and Rock Band. Interestingly, however, this self-proclaimed party game breaks with the trend and can, at times, be quite entertaining on your own (especially if you're in the mood to pummel something). In essence, Facebreaker is Wii Sports' Boxing game with some tweaks. You are not able to control the positioning of your gloves, but you can choose where to move. Instead of unresponsive controls, your enemy doesn't let you get a punch in. It's very familiar to Wii Sports gamers....

"Enemies fail to notice you walk up behind them"
Rat a tat go the guns, neeyoorm go the missiles, bing goes the Xbox: "achievement unlocked" argh goes your character, aww go you; you weren't quick enough, you've been stabbed for the fifty sixth time that hour. Call of Duty World at War has a lot to live up to. Last year Infinity Ward surpassed all expectations with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Heralded by many as the best game of last year, CoD4 impressed everyone. It was the multiplayer that everyone loved; it remains one of the most played games on Xbox Live, and I'm sure its the same on the PlayStation Network. So after last year's success, development duties have passed back to Treyarch, who have made the third COD. In a nutshell, CoD World at War is everything CoD4 was (but now in World War 2). But that's the problem. ...

"Lara is back."
Lara is back. There hasn't been a Tomb Raider game for a couple of years, so the release of Underworld has been attracting quite a bit of attention of late, so it seemed like quite a good time to write a preview. So, whats new? Here comes the press release! Master your surroundings: Reach new heights with the broadest range of acrobatic abilities and utilize objects within the environment to uncover new paths to explore. Explore epic and unknown worlds: Discover ancient mysteries of the underworld hidden within the coast of Thailand, frozen islands of the Arctic Sea, the jungles of Mexico, and more. ...

"Sing, rock out on the drums or play either lead or bass guitars"
This post is an "Impressions" - we will give you a full review alongside Rock Band 2 later this month when it is out in the UK. Guitar Hero III has been a great hit in the UK, despite Rock Band being arguably (way) better, so the arrival of Guitar Hero World Tour was bound to draw some attention. It drew ours. Initial impressions were very, very good. The rather in your face Guitar Hero III graphics had been toned down quite a lot, with the focus on the screen a lot more on the music. The great initial impressions continued further, diving straight into the quickplay mode, and shouting at the top of my voice "WOOAH WE'RE HALF WAY THERE-ERE, WHOOAH-OH WE'RE LIVING ON A PRAYER!" Unfortunately, things started to go steadily downhill. A closer inspection revealed that save the music creation studio ...

"An enjoyable experience like no other"
Oh, joy of joys. Another sports game for the Wii. Wonder where they got that idea... Sarcasm aside, this is all in all not as bad as I had anticipated. Basically, it's a collection of minigames. Stuff you could find on the internet, only customized for the Wii and put in one CD. This is not an untapped resource, and has even formed its own genre, labelling itself "party games". Essentially, this means: Don't play this game on your own, because you won't enjoy it. It'll last you maybe ten minutes before you tire of playing it. And there are no unlockables whatsoever. Not even a new character. Slightly irritating, but still. Playing with friends, however, is an enjoyable experience like no other. There is nothing like going canoeing with some mates with Wiimotes - it is truly a joy to watch your ...

"I have to say that the next Bond game does certainly look like it is going to be the best ...
Erm...I'm struggling to find a way to start this preview other than "Bond is Back" - well at least, he will be, on October 31st, and of course he will be appearing (For the first time ever as Daniel Craig) in video game format too. Now, for me, the best Bond game ever was Nightfire (2002) for PS2, which, though it was a very good game in most aspects, should have no trouble being outdone by its next-gen counterparts. And I have to say that the next Bond game does certainly look like it is going to be the best yet (And the first released for PC - good news for me). So what's it going to be like? Well it will be better than previous Bonds because... It's based on an updated ...

Kung Fu Panda, at its heart, symbolizes all movie tie-ins. I hate movie tie-ins. They consist mainly of picking up random objects, much like Sonic's love for rings or Mario's for coins. You spend much of your time smashing boxes to find these collectables, then you run around and smack a few enemies around. The enemies tend to all be the same model used over and over again. This is then followed by a pointless cutscene which we are often told is "straight out of the movie" but looks like a three year old had a go with Cinema 4D. I hate movie tie-ins. The graphics aren't particularly good, nor does using the Wii system help. On the other hand, for a movie tie in, Kung Fu Panda did actually have some high ...

Baroque started well. I mean, it had a pleasant box, and the DVD slide nicely into my Wii. No problems there. Even fact, it was a great pleasure to aim my Wiimote at the "Baroque" selection on the menu screen. However, apart from the occasional miracle, the fun ended there. Let's get nitpicking. Nothing at the beginning of the game is explained to you. You're shown an unhelpful cut scene, and dumped into a place you will later know as "The Outer World". You may wander around for a while, picking up controls or such, until you "accidentally" wander into a cutscene, where some angel guy tells you to heal your sins at the bottom of the Neuro tower... blah blah blah... and gives you a cool looking gun called the Angelic Rifle. You are then sent off to the tower he mentioned, where ...

It's deja vu all over again. Now, I like Indiana Jones, and I enjoy the simple but fun idea of Lego.Technically, the two should fit together easily, and forge a good game. However, this is prevented by one simple fact: it's been done before. The Legofication of Star Wars Episodes 1,2 and 3 was great fun, and sold well, because it was interesting, it was fun, but most importantly, it was new. Even the second one, moving on to episodes 4,5, and 6 was quite enjoyable - after all, they added new features like creating your own character. But Lego Indiana Jones is just retreading old ground. They may have new(ish) features like using different tools for different purposes, but in actual fact, they had that in the Star Wars ones as well - only now Force powers have been replaced with spades, Jar Jar's high jump now belongs to the women (no, I ...
